We are here to rewild New Zealand with beautiful native forest and make sure those responsible for it are rewarded.
My Native Forest began with an honest question — how to incentivise the planting of more native forest in New Zealand?
Sensing there was a market solution to this problem, we set about investigating the current plant-for-profit landscape, finding two critical problems:
1) schemes that used carbon trading to facilitate planting were complicated and off-putting to a majority of investors;
2) the upfront cost of planting native forests is high, and the time horizon for recoupling these costs, long.
As a team, we set about creating a solution that would satisfy these two questions. The lightbulb moment came following countless hours of interviews with a wide range of actors — regulators, developers, brokers and the New Zealand Government.
A combination of our collective backgrounds, My Native Forest integrates fintech solutions and forestry science to deliver an innovative, simple to use native forest investment platform. Our hope is that you become part of our solution by:
1) investing in local carbon markets (it’s easier than you think!);
2) helping landowners offset the upfront costs of planting native trees
